Sailor stripes are one of my staples for the summer. Fine, I’m not cruising the Mediterranean sea on a yacht but I can pretend! And here, I’m pretending in a straw fedora, striped tank dress from Topshop, charcoal/silver socks by K.Bell that I blogged about here and a trusty old pair of Steve Madden platform peep-toes.

I have been obsessed with Jefferey Campbell’s Lita Shoes for over a year now and it is not going away! I had fun styling them with a summer twist. Check it out:

Not sure whether you knew it or not, but there is a uniform that is worn at music festival. You know the look… wellies, short jeans shorts, a big belt (these days the trend is Moschino belts only), a lacy bra that peeks out from under a big loose tank top or cropped shirt, long flowing hair and a headband or wide rimmed floppy hat.
It’s the go-to look for festivals, but as I said, it is a uniform. You’ll fit in, but if you want to stand out, go outside of the box a bit and switch up your style. Keep summery elements in your outfit like a floral shirt or skirt, but try a funky skirt instead of shorts or loafers or lace-ups instead of wellies. I learnt from my mistake, avoid sandals. Your feet will be caked in dirt!
I went to Lovebox Festival in London recently and wore this outfit. While summery and festival-y it’s not the typical outfit that 50% of the girls there were in. Best of all, it was easy, comfortable and sourced entirely from my wardrobe and I didn’t need to spend a penny for it.
I’m wearing my Patricia Field skirt, a necklace from Avon (yes, the cosmetics company), a Bershka top and a gold headband.

I was pointed to Lauren Conrad’s beauty site, TheBeautyDepartment.com by one of my fave PR girls at Siren PR. I’ve always admired LC’s girl next door but polished California beauty and have been a long time fan of Amy Nadine, the genius behind LC’s looks.
Check it out:
Also, featured on LC’s site is the hottest new hair trend for the summer – Rainbow tips!

The trend alert also comes courtesy of senior Colorist at Cutler Salon on 57th Street in NYC, Dallas Walsh. In his words: “This new rainbow trend is an extension of the ombre looks we’ve been seeing since winter. We’ve had a lot of requests to add shots of color and tipping. Feather extensions were the big craze as we transitioned into summer but now that everyone’s wearing those a fresh way to make your hair pop is to add rainbow tips. The rainbow ombre is a fun, vibrant way to add a pop to your style and will look great on all hair colors.”
He also recommends that if you think it is too much to mess with your hair to die it so many colors, try the look with extensions.

It is the height of summer and we are busy planning our summer trips to Ibiza and yacht trips around the Mediterranean. Aside from travel plans, the first two things that come to mind are fitness and wardrobe. Everyone who knows me personally, is aware of my bipolar diet and fitness habits and therefore, I wont attempt to dispatch any fitness advice. I have to, however, spread the word about Naeem Khan’s resort wear collection for 2012, one of my favorite designers of all time and the maker of my dream wedding dress someday (note the word, dream… not reality).
I love the neckline and off the shoulder cut of the bust of these dresses and the print is just precious.

The new hot summer makeup collection from LORAC is so bronzy, bakey and shimmery that looking at the photos of the products is warming me up, even on this frigid cold day in NYC. The name of the collection is helping too (wink). It is called the Touch Me, Tease Me, TANtalize Me Collection.

When it comes to accessories, Fendi is one of those Italian fashion houses that can keep up with French mega brands like Chloe and Chanel. This season, Fendi got a lot of buzz for the billowy pants and blouses and primary colors that were seen during the Spring shows. The clothes were elegant as always but what really caught my eye were the gorgeous colorful obi belts that accessorized the clothes. Here are the boldest and brightest belts to come down the runway and how they were paired with the collection.

Chictopia featured designer Christina Fan and her SS 2011 collection at their annual conference during Fashion Week in New York City. They had chosen the collection as the last event and grand finale of the conference and it was clear to see why. They had saved the best for last. The C/FAN collection featured a beautiful sheer fabric that Christina had commissioned to be printed with a photo she found that inspired her. The collection also includes geometric cropped blouses, beautifully draped shorts, jersey dresses as well as form fitted cocktail dresses making it a well rounded collection. I got the incredible opportunity to interview Christina and ask her about her inspiration behind the collection.
Q: Where did you find the photo that was printed onto the SS 2011 collection fabric? Who took it?
A: The inspiration from C/FAN Spring/Summer 2011 is a nostalgic innocence akin to an awakening. It seemed like fate that a friend of mine stumbled upon this photo by Paul Keith of a December Morning on Caddo Lake.
Q: Being from an Asian background, I’m curious as to what kind of support or approval you got from your family about switching gears from history to Fashion?
A: I am so grateful that my family has been amazingly supportive throughout my career. They supported me when I wanted to be a concert cellist, then made the switch to history and applied to law school and now as a designer. I think that their open-minded approach to my upbringing allows me to embrace design as a career and also keeps me grounded.
Q: What can we expect in the near future from C/FAN?
A: C/FAN most recently launched a small limited inventory to be sold online, which can be found at www.cfan-designs.com and will also be showing Spring/Summer 2011 at Fashion Focus in Chicago on October 19, 2010 for the Macys and Chicago Fashion Incubator show sponsored by CS magazine. We will also be involved in more events in NY and Chicago for the coming months. At the moment, it’s back to the drawing board for Fall/Winter 2011!
