American Wave – New Hair Trend

Posted on 10 May 2012 by Ritu

Contributed by Editor: Laurel

(New York) Last month I had the lucky opportunity to attend the official launch party for the Arrojo American Wave System at the Arrojo Studio down on Varick Street in NYC. American Wave is a new professional hair treatment using ionic technology to amplify the natural texture of hair and achieve a variety of curly looks, from “beachy waves” to “full blown curls.”

Textured, wavy hair dominated the runways at NY Fashion Week this year and according to Nick Arrojo, “Straight hair is out. Disheveled elegance is in.” I met Nick Arrojo, founder of the Arrojo Studio and his team who presented the American Wave system to a room full of bloggers and reporters. Nick explained his background, the history of perms, and his excitement for a boost in trend and customer demand for soft and natural wavy or curly hair that reduces the stress on hair. Next we saw a demonstration of the range of texture and length that can be achieved with the new system and soft tool wraps including:

  • The Beach Wave (marrying straight and wavy to create sexy, tousled beach waves)
  • Style Support (adding volume and texture to create resilient consistent waves)
  • Expanded Curls (creating buoyant and resilient waves and curls)

American Wave is launching May 1st at Arrojo Studio and Arrojo Ambassador Salons throughout the US (salon locater will be available on May 1st). The service cost ranges from $200-400 and takes about 1.5-2 hours total service time. Clients with all hair types are eligible and the formula lasts for about 3 months. It even works with many permanent and semi-permanent hair colors!

As someone with very fine, straight hair, I would love to try out American Wave sometime this year. How fun would it be to have beachy waves for the summer months?!

Before I left, I checked out Arrojo’s professional hair product line. For me, the standout product is the new ReFINISH Dry Shampoo. Like most dry shampoos, this product soaks up excess oil and cleanses air without water. But two things make it stand out above the rest. First, it has an amazing fresh smell that’s a mix of aloe vera and ginger. It really makes your hair feel refreshed and clean. Second, the shampoo spray comes out clear. It’s not white and powdery like most dry shampoos that are hard to hide once you spray them on. I really recommend this product. So far I love using it, and really enjoy having the chance to wash my hair fewer times a week.

Tips from Blake’s Lively’s Green Lantern Hair Stylist

Posted on 14 July 2011 by Ritu

I’m still waiting to see Green Lantern. Is it worth it? Let me know! I would watch it just for Ryan Reynold’s hotness and to see Blake Lively as a brunette. So many guys I meet these days are more into brunettes than blonds, which came as a shock to me. I think Lively hits both types of guys, the blond fans as well as the fans of darker features with this new look.

Kerastase is letting us in the secret to Blake Lively’s brunette look!

Lively’s colorist for the film, Rona O’Connor, relied on Kerastase Paris’ Reflection line to restore nourishment and shine to her color-treated hair. The hi-tech formula of the products enhance the hair’s natural glow to refresh and disguise damaged and color treated hair. O’Connor recommends Kerastase Masque Chroma Riche to add shine. To finish Blake Lively’s Green Lantern look, O’Connor used Kerastase Chroma Cristal, a shine-perfecting mist to enhance the dark hair color and give her hair an extra layer of protection.

Wonderland Beauty Parlor NYC

Posted on 01 April 2011 by Ritu

My favorite hair salon in the entire city is Michaelangelo’s Wonderland in the Meatpacking district. I found the salon through Lifebooker and was instantly in love. I’ve been going to get my haircut there for the past 3 years and have never come away disappointed. From the moment you step in, the luxury and bubble-gum Katy Perry-esque decor and a complementary glass of champagne will whisk you away to a true wonderland. Trust yourself fully in the capable hands of Michael, Gabriel, Scott, Anastasia, Mitchell or anyone else who is available because they are all extremely talented and creative. Here’s a little photo tour of my favorite beauty parlor in the city!

Best Holiday Party Hairstyle

Posted on 21 December 2010 by Ritu

We have spent countless hours hunting for the perfect holiday dress and just the right accessories but we often forget that the right hairdo can really make us stand out in a big crowd of other pretty girls who’ve spent countless hours on the above as well. This holiday hairstyle was spotted on the Phillip Lim 3.1 runway and featured on Refinery29.com. The Front Flip shown here is super easy, flirty, girly and chic. The side swept hair in the front is feminine in a ladylike way. The semi-messy tresses are girly and flirty and will make you look more approachable than having your hair in a tight and polished up do.

Grab a bottle of Phyto Phytovolume Actif Maximizing Volume Spray and head to this link for four easy steps on how to get this cute hairdo.

Rachel Bilson’s Curly Hairstyle

Posted on 13 December 2010 by Ritu

Rachel Bilson is a steady contender in all of the top fashion sites as well as tabloids. She has that All American Girl appeal while keeping a sharp stylish edge and isn’t afraid to wear new and daring outfits. She usually wears her hair flat-ironed straight or totally unkempt. The messy “I don’t care” look has been her recent signature hairstyle so seeing her with beautiful spiral curls was a welcome change. She looks great with big loose curls falling around her chin and neck and the highlights look perfectly grown out. Rachel, loose the flatiron, keep the curls!

Roberto Cavalli SS 2011 – Backstage Makeup and Hair

Posted on 30 September 2010 by Ritu

I stumbled upon Roberto Cavalli’s Official Facebook Fan Page and was sort of blown away by this amazing photo album I found in there of the models backstage getting their makeup and hair done. The gorgeous girls were made up in a rocker chick meets California blond look with copper smokey eyes and flat-ironed hair. The eyes had the perfect copper tone with lash to brow heavy shadow and a touch of wet looking shimmer on the lids. The lips were mainly a matte nude with a few girls wearing light lip tint. Below are some of my favorite photos from the album.
