Autumn Trend Alert – Knitted Gilet

Posted on 18 October 2011 by Ritu

(London) ‘Tis the season for layering which is a major reason why Autumn is our favourite season. Some key layering items are collared shirts (experiment with neon collars), multiple tees, cardigans and blazers and fur vests. Another very trendy option is go with a knitted gilet. A knitted wool gilet adds warmth and yet is so cool!

Mango Fitted Blazer with Leather Sleeves

Posted on 10 October 2011 by Ritu

(London) I spotted this Mango Fitted Blazer with Leather Sleeves on my favourite celebrity WhoWhatWear daily newsletter today and instant obsession! I believe that a girl only needs one fitted, impeccably tailored blazer in her closet and I’m about to push my limits (which is already at about four blazers at variable degrees of bespoke tailoring) by adding this to the collection. It is priced at $140 in the US and is an absolute steal in the UK at £69.90!

Channeling Cavalrymen in Riding Pants and Epaulettes

Posted on 05 January 2011 by Ritu

I’m wearing American Apparel riding pants, DVF cropped cashmere sweater with epaulettes and Diba boots.

I consider American Apparel kind of like comfort food – always reliable when you don’t know what you are in the mood for. When it comes to shopping and I need a good old reliable store with items that are both comfortable and edgy, I head straight to American Apparel. I saw their riding pants on a lot of my favorite bloggers, like Liz from Late Afternoon, as well as on AA ads all over the blogosphere. I had to have a pair because of how incredibly versatile these pants are. The waistband can be a bit tight but the high cut is amazingly forgiving on your figure and will give you a great silhouette.

As you you know, I’m a sample sale addict and took good advantage of the DVF sample sale last month. I picked up a gorgeous cropped cashmere sweater at the sale for $40! That’s insanely awesome! I’m in love with the sweater but because it is very short, I can only wear it with super high waisted pants like these riding pants or pencil skirts. My favorite detail on the sweater is the epaulette on the shoulders. Inspired by cavalrymen and traditionally used to convey rank among soldiers, it definitely lends status to the wearer of this cute DVF sweater.

Devil in Disguise – A Halloween Costume Idea

Posted on 30 October 2010 by Ritu

So it’s that time of year again which many a frisky lady loves and many girls hate. Halloween is the perfect excuse of so many to unleash their inner promiscuous dresser and play a fantastical role for one night. Many of the outfits are hopefully not true fantasies because this “costume” is truly my worse nightmare rather than a fantasy. In the attempt to finding an economical yet clever outfit, I thought of being a Devil-in-Disguise. What would that be you ask? I would be a regular person, dressed sort of formally wearing little devil horns on my head. Very clever. Not. A few friends mentioned, wouldn’t it be funnier if I dressed up like the devil and wore a disguise mask like the one below?

Yes, it would! I have yet to decide what I will actually go with. My original costume below, the funnier version above, or something completely cliché like a naughty professor. What do you think?

Fire House Fabulous – Streetstyle

Posted on 29 October 2010 by Ritu

Fall is the best season for dressing up but it can also be hard. There are so many options to play with layers, colors and shapes. I wore this outfit over the weekend on a very lazy Sunday when I didn’t feel like dressing up and it turned out to be fabulously urban!

How to Wear Lace up Booties in the Fall

As  I had mentioned in a previous post, Spring shoes recently debuted in the USA and threw a party at their store for some NYC bloggers last month. I picked up this gorgeous pair of lace up booties from Spring called McEntyre in taupe that I love! I got compliments on them from strangers while walking around the East Village, which is totally validating, and after walking in them the whole night, I have to admit, they are quite comfortable despite the mid-heel. They look great with black or grey tights and super skinny pants. I wore them with cable knit woolly socks which also looked cool. Here is how I styled them for a dressed down weekend look.

Jeffrey Campbell Lita Shoes

Posted on 12 October 2010 by Ritu

The one shoe that has been seen on most elite fashion blog sites, hands down is Jeffrey Campbell‘s Lita shoe. At first, I thought it looked too 60s and wasn’t sure how I felt about them, but after seeing how striking it looks on some of these bloggers, I’m a converted fan. It retails for $145 plus tax and shipping and handling and can be found at select online retailers like Karmaloop and DNA Footwear. I am seriously considering buying a pair if I can track it down in black. That color seems to be sold out everywhere! If that’s not a sign that it’s hot, then I don’t know what is… no matter what you say about how retro they look.

Fall’s Green Nail Polish

Posted on 07 October 2010 by Ritu

Green is not a huge trend this fall when it comes to nail polish color, but after seeing how good NARS’ Fall Vintage nail color Zulu looked on Temptalia, I was inspired to get a green manicure. My hands down most favorite nail salon in the city, Blooming Nails on Lexington between 40th and 41st didn’t have anything except for Orly’s Enchanted Forrest however so I had to settle for that shade. It didn’t turn out too bad though! What do you think?

Wingtip Oxford Shoes by Spring

Posted on 06 October 2010 by Ritu

Spring shoes have been around in Canada (where I’m from) for years and has finally come to the US! I was invited to the grand store opening in Manhattan Mall last month to preview the store and sample the goods along with many other fashion and style bloggers. We were given gift certificates to pick out our favorite styles and take them home with us. Naturally, when you put a bunch of fashion obsessed bloggers in a shoe store all at once, mayhem ensues. The store got mobbed pretty quickly with over half hour long lines just to cash out! I took a rain-check and opted to come in later to pick up a really cool pair of  Wingtip Oxford shoes that I’m absolutely in love with.

They are called Bramer and retail for $39.99 plus tax. I was lucky enough to snag up a pair in brown since it seems like that color is sold out on the Spring website.  I styled them with plain black leggings and a white slinky pullover, on a Sunday stroll through SoHo (photography by Joel Zimmer).
