London Fashion Week SS13

(London) I finally made it to a Fashion Week in London! Well, not really but sort of. I didn’t get a chance to see any shows this season but I made sure I visited the venue, which was the majestic Somerset House on the Thames.

London Fashion Week VS New York Fashion Week

LFW was a lot more subdued in comparison to NYFW. First of all, it is nearly impossible to get through the doors of any building at NYFW without an official invite from a designer or a press pass whereas at LFW, ‘civilians’ were welcome to enter the premises, take photos, pose in front of the official signs and pretend for a moment that they were part of the exclusive and elusive fashion crowd. The second most noticeable difference was just how sparse the LFW venue was. New York City is bustling during Fashion Week and it is quite difficult to take the subway without seeing two incredibly tall models trying not to hit the ceiling with their heads while giggling away or walk by any of the studios where shows are held without having to dodge bloggers, journalists and photographers. Although you can spot a few models running around London during Fashion Week, it isn’t a vibey as NYC but maybe that’s because London is just so big and all the fun happens in members only circles.

The spectators are a bit friendlier at LFW vs NYFW. I made friends with another blogger who was walking around the Somerset House and also with a photographer who took some great photos of me and posed for me as well! At NYFW, everyone is glued to their smart phones and avoiding eye contact with anyone at all.

Overall, I had a great little expedition to LFW and having kept up with the shows and trends that were shown, am sure to follow up with some posts on upcoming SS13 trends.

Here is a recap of my LFW experience in photos. See all of my Fashion Week Posts here.
