Sometimes when you need to look put together but aren’t really in the mood to put work into your outfit, the best thing to do is put on a tailored and fitted dress. A dress is easy because it’s just one piece and will make you look… well, dressed up! If this day happens to be a Friday when you don’t want to look too formal but not sloppy either, a denim dress is your best bet.
Just like the perfect pair of jeans, the perfect denim dress can make you feel comfortable while keeping you looking good.
If you have been reading my posts on The Stylester lately, you know by now that I’m a big Theory fan. I picked up this gorgeous dress from a previous sample sale for under $100 (it retails for over $300!). If I could, I’d wear it everyday but I think people would notice this on me more than my every-other-day pair of Seven jeans. I usually wear it with my brown Zigi cork slingbacks or my white wedges from Browns (a Canadian shoe store).
Below are some options of where to pick up your very own denim dress.

Summer is officially here and with it is the necessity to have some great new summer sandals for everyday wear. I love these flats from Zigi NYC because they embody the sparkly fresh feel of summer. If you haven’t seen the ankle strappy and embellished look all over the city already, get ready because they will be a hot trend this season.
This updated version of the gladiator trend combines a tough look with bohemian and flirty details like beads, braided leather and chains. They are comfortable but will dress up an outfit instantly for those of us who like to add some drama into their wardrobe during the day.

I picked up the green dress in China which is random since it looks so African inspired. Cinched with a corset-ish belt, it was the perfect Sunday afternoon outfit. Those shoes from Urban Outfitters are extremely comfortable too! Oh and do you like my new marc by marc jabobs bag? I got it at a steal at Nordstrom Rack!

I’ve had this shirt handed down to me from my grandmother for 7-8 years but haven’t worn it more than twice before. Because of the embroidery and retro look of it, I avoided wearing it because I felt it looked too different from regular tops. I finally decided to pair it with a simple satin pencil skirt from Theory and wear it to work. I’m happy to report that the result was fabulous and well received. I finally am putting this gorgeous silk heirloom blouse, hand-embroidered by my grandma, to use and gaining boho chic points while I’m at it!

While reading the daily newsletter from WhoWhatWear this morning, something about this outfit seen on a model backstage at a Derek Lam fashion show jumped out at me as totally wearable but unique, both at the same time. Maybe it’s the perfect layering that the model has achieved, from the super casual long sleeved tee, with a short sleeved cardi and the extra long skinny belt or the mix of grey, shiny black and camel, or the so of the moment shiny tights and the classic chain strap Chanel purse. The entire look works and yet looks so effortless and comfortable.

Lookbook.nu is the best personal style site I’ve come across so far after trying over 5 others. I like it because of the quality control – it’s very hard to find a bad image on the site, effects – all the images look very arty, and the users and their styles. I can spend hours on the site and have finally added my own look on it! Check it and let me know what you think.

I wore this outfit on the first real warm day of spring this year. The shirt is actually a kurta I got in Bangladesh when I visited over Christmas from the store Deshal. My leggings are plain old F21 and studded ballet flats from Diesel.
The photo was taken in one of my favorite neighbourhoods in New York - DUMBO, Brooklyn, a neighbourhood where I worked for over 2 years after moving to NYC.

I got a pair of blue tights in a goody bag recently and have been trying to figure out how to wear it for weeks. This lovely lady caught my eye in Grand Central by her gorgeous pairing of blue tights and a bright orange coat. She showed me that there is no better way to pair a bright color than with another!
If you are like me, and brights colors aren’t your thing, then try your blue tights with your fave LBD like Pavement Chaser in SoHo.

I saw this couple shopping at the Zara in SoHo over the weekend during Fashion week. They must have just come from one of the shows, or were headed there, because they were dressed and styled up fabulously. The mink, red Chanel fanny pack, turban-ish hat and heart patterned tights and white pumps on the girl and the skinny pants suit, navy scarf and blue thick rimmed glasses on the guy really stood out in middle of a store. I couldn’t stop peeking at them from behind clothing racks so I braved up and asked to take a picture to share with you!
