(New York) Last month I had the lucky opportunity to attend the official launch party for the Arrojo American Wave System at the Arrojo Studio down on Varick Street in NYC. American Wave is a new professional hair treatment using ionic technology to amplify the natural texture of hair and achieve a variety of curly looks, from “beachy waves” to “full blown curls.”
Textured, wavy hair dominated the runways at NY Fashion Week this year and according to Nick Arrojo, “Straight hair is out. Disheveled elegance is in.” I met Nick Arrojo, founder of the Arrojo Studio and his team who presented the American Wave system to a room full of bloggers and reporters. Nick explained his background, the history of perms, and his excitement for a boost in trend and customer demand for soft and natural wavy or curly hair that reduces the stress on hair. Next we saw a demonstration of the range of texture and length that can be achieved with the new system and soft tool wraps including:
The Beach Wave (marrying straight and wavy to create sexy, tousled beach waves)
Style Support (adding volume and texture to create resilient consistent waves)
Expanded Curls (creating buoyant and resilient waves and curls)
American Wave is launching May 1st at Arrojo Studio and Arrojo Ambassador Salons throughout the US (salon locater will be available on May 1st). The service cost ranges from $200-400 and takes about 1.5-2 hours total service time. Clients with all hair types are eligible and the formula lasts for about 3 months. It even works with many permanent and semi-permanent hair colors!
As someone with very fine, straight hair, I would love to try out American Wave sometime this year. How fun would it be to have beachy waves for the summer months?!
Before I left, I checked out Arrojo’s professional hair product line. For me, the standout product is the new ReFINISH Dry Shampoo. Like most dry shampoos, this product soaks up excess oil and cleanses air without water. But two things make it stand out above the rest. First, it has an amazing fresh smell that’s a mix of aloe vera and ginger. It really makes your hair feel refreshed and clean. Second, the shampoo spray comes out clear. It’s not white and powdery like most dry shampoos that are hard to hide once you spray them on. I really recommend this product. So far I love using it, and really enjoy having the chance to wash my hair fewer times a week.

Disclaimer: At the American Wave event, Arrojo gave us some styling products to sample and review, including the dry shampoo mentioned above.
(New York) The first time I had heard of ‘Vegan clothing’ was via Avril Lavigne and to be honest, I wasn’t sold. It seemed like hype more than anything but after learning about the socially and environmentally responsible Vegan clothing movement, I am a big supporter. One such Vegan brands that has recently been on my radar is Vault Couture that was introduced to me by my good friend and fellow blogger, Laurel of Laurel on Health Food. She recently won a vegan winter coat at a vegetarian food festival courtesy of Vaute Couture and gave me the opportunity to feature her on The Stylester!
Here, she is wearing the Oru coat by Vaute Couture. Buy the Oru coat on sale right now for $185.
Laurel is wearing a Vaute Couture Oru Coat in soft black, H&M blue skinny trousers, Fossil key-per pouch (clutch), Ann Taylor snakeskin pumps and U.S. Polo Assn. sunglasses.
More about Vaute Couture
Vaute Couture was launched by model Leanne Mai-ly Hilgart and is made with 100% vegan materials. The coats by the brand are are made of recycled and recyclable fibers and constructed locally in NYC’s fashion district.
(New York) I had the very fortunate opportunity to preview alice + olivia’s fabulous Fall collection last night. There was plenty of textured denim, bold patterns, metallics, cute shoes, and my favorite–sequins and sparkles! Take a peek.
(New York) Madonna is launching herself as the star of her new ad campaign for the fragrance Truth or Dare. Is it just another display of her love for herself or is it going to work? Thoughts?
You can skip the hype and pre-order the fragrance from Macy’s here.
(New York) Some of the things I miss most about New York are the people – the cab drivers, angry pedestrians, lost tourists, douchy bankers, annoying hipsters and most of all my friends. One of such dearly missed friends is my buddy Joel. Creative and talented, he has been seen on this blog before. He still keeps in the loop with all things fashionable in the men’s style realm like these boots he recently purchased.
On the left are Alden Capped Toes, Cordovan #8 (from J. Crew). On the right are White’s Semi-Dress with a Capped toe on the Swing Last.
(New York) I’m in love with Blake Lively… no, just her stylist, whoever this mystery person is. Blake’s stylist is a genius! Apart from the standard awesomeness of the Gossip Girl outfits, the style team behind Lively always has her looking stunning, sexy and current which is why she graces the pages of The Stylester on a regular basis.
She was spotted in a sublime Valentino outfit at the unveiling of Godiva’s Valentine’s Day chocolates in New York last week. What makes this outfit special? Blake is wearing two key Spring trends – lace and pastels. Her Valentino skirt is the body con pencil shape and with a pastel lace, there is a touch of romanticism in the outfit – very fit for Valentine’s day.
(New York) It is a digital age and we all know it, yet we can’t help by reach for those glossy print magazine at the news stand. Having an iPad (through work) I genuinely feel guilty paying for glossy mags. The cover of a magazine has to really stand out for me to dish out a few dollars or pounds to buy one. The last magazine that I bought was the GQ Mens Style Issue and for obvious reasons.
One that I will be adding to the rituPad (as I like to call it) is the new Marie Claire app. See a video that the Masthead at Marie Claire made to introduce the app a while back.
A list of the magazines I read on the iPad is below. Some are paid subscriptions but I generally just browse the free previews and free versions.
