Shibuya Streetstyle in Tokyo

Posted on 11 May 2012 by Ritu

(Tokyo) The Far East, the Land of the Rising Sun, whatever you might call it… I call it Amazing! I visited Japan for the first time ever this month and was completely blown away. As I mentioned in my last post, that “being there is fashionably more inspiring than reading a million fashion mags” and I am saying it again here. The neighbourhood of Shibuya, where hipsters, fashionistas and artists gather has a legendary cross intersection which I simply had to film. The video, which I made with the Miniatures app on my iPhone, shows the organised mayhem that happens at the intersection.

London is Really Calling

Posted on 22 April 2011 by Ritu

Hello to all the readers & my fellow stylesters. A big apology for not keeping up with posting regularly on TheStylester. I have some big news to share! My news/excuse/reason for falling behind on posts is that I’m moving to London! I’ve been traveling back and forth and all over the place trying to organize this cross-Atlantic move.

I’ve dreamed of living in the UK ever since I was a little girl and still can’t believe I am getting the chance to do it. What’s taking me there is an opportunity to work in digital advertising in London, but to be honest, the travel opportunities in Europe is what really convinced me to go for it.

So, there will be some changes; in my life and on TheStylester.com. Instead of NYC’s streetstyle, you’ll see London’s, UK brands and labels will take up many posts and the unique culture of the amazing city will be the inspiration behind a lot of my writing. My love for my two homes in New York City and Toronto will remain visible as I’m sure I will want to keep spreading the word on new and notable lovely things from those two cosmopolitans.

Am I scared? Yes. Am I excited? Obviously! Any move and life change is big and scary but when opportunity knocks, you must open the door and let it in. Also, London fashion and the amazing streetstyle is pumping me up! So stay tuned and perk up those ears, because London is calling.

What to Pack on a Weekend away to Upstate New York

Posted on 30 August 2008 by Ritu

I’m soooo psyched right now to be going away to a friend’s cottage in Upstate New York for the Labor Day Weekend. As I was frantically packing this morning and running late for work in turn, these are the following things I just couldn’t leave the house without. They are the “must have with you”s while away at the country house, chilling with a bunch of young people and drinking coors lights and swimming in the lake all weekend:

  • Sunscreen
  • Shades
  • Manicure-Pedicure (get it beforehand of course)
  • 2 pairs of bikinis / bathing suits
  • A deck of playing cards – for low key tired evenings, or drinking games
  • A fashion magazine or two, or a light and “fluffy” summer novel like Everyone Worth Knowing by Lauren Weisberger
  • A huge beach towel
  • Lotsa cash for Coors Lights and Bud Lights

Things to leave behind:

  • Your laptop
  • Your E-Leash (aka BlackBerry)

Enjoy your long weekend ladies! xoxo!

How 20 something girls Travel in Style

Posted on 05 March 2008 by Ritu

In the confined spaces of airports, well dressed and stylish women (and men) stick out like sore thumbs in the midst of matching sweat-suits and jogging pants. We can’t help but check them out repeatedly to the point of staring, but why not try out the receiving end of that? Here are some easy ways how:

  1. Don’t be afraid to wear heels, but be sensible. Wear a comfortable pair of low heels or wedges, no stilettos or pointy-toed ones on the flight.
  2. Take a rolling suitcase with wheels instead of a duffel bag. It is harder to keep your balance and posture in heels while carrying extra weight.
  3. Add a touch of bold colour, like deep red lipstick or a bright coloured scarf or shawl.
  4. Blow dry your hair before you fly. Cabin air dries you out, and it will actually help in maintaining your blow-dried or flat-ironed style. If you go au naturel, your hair will just go flat and staticky.
  5. Wear a headband if you didn’t have time to blow dry. It’s an easy way of keeping frizz and static in check and adds a classy touch.
  6. Moisturize like crazy – that includes your hands, face, as well as body, so drink lots of water and keep a tiny tube of hand cream handy. You’ll look fresh and supple instead of dry and pale like most of the other travelers.
  7. Touch up your make up just before landing, especially if you have someone who’s waiting to receive you at your destination. Don’t overdo it, just a touch of eyeliner, lipgloss and blush will do for a very fresh look.

Now that you know how to look fabulous at the airport, don’t forget to stay alert, on your toes and on time. Happy traveling!
