Christmas came and went, hopefully we got all the presents we had wished for and hoping even more that we didn’t eat enough rich holiday food for an entire starving ANTM house. The chances are we did, or at least I did, and therefore am desperately searching for a serious cleansing diet which will miraculously take that extra inch around my waist away and get me in shape to wear a slinky dress for New Years Eve.
This is the cleanse or diet that I have settled on, taking parts of Gwyneth Paltrow’s post-Christmas diet and mixing them in with what works for my body:
What not to eat during my Post-Christmas Cleansing Diet:
No carbs (including rice, bread, potatoes, pasta) – at least try to and give in to a little piece of bread or pita when you eventually break down
Less salt, because salt retains water and makes you look bloated
No cheese
No alcohol
No sugar
What is OK to eat during my Post-Christmas Cleansing Diet:
Natural sweeteners like honey
Meat but in small portions
Fruit and fresh fruit juices and smoothies
Coffee (I know I shouldn’t but can’t function without it)
Yogurt, preferably Greek yogurt with honey
Lots of tea
Lots of water
What usually works as a quick weight loss strategy is to replace all your main meals in the day with two smaller meals. If you are a breakfast person, try having just tea or juice first thing in the morning with a big glass of water. At 10am, have fruits and handful of raw almonds. Eat a small salad or humus and veggie sticks or a small pita for the first part of lunch at 12pm. At 2pm, eat the rest of your lunch. Make sure to get a snack that’ll wake you up around 3:30pm. Plan for an early dinner and eat a small portion at around 5pm or 6pm. Finish up with a big helping of fruits at 8pm. Drink plenty of water and tea and honey till you go to bed.
According to Marie Clair, Gwyneth Paltrow’s detox diet includes a breakfast smoothie, carrot and ginger salad for lunch and broccoli soup for dinner. She snacks on a handful of nuts in between. Personally, that’s too intense for me and what I wrote above is just a general guideline. Just be careful, exercise and eat healthy and you will look and feel your best in your New Year Eve dress!
So it’s that time of year again which many a frisky lady loves and many girls hate. Halloween is the perfect excuse of so many to unleash their inner promiscuous dresser and play a fantastical role for one night. Many of the outfits are hopefully not true fantasies because this “costume” is truly my worse nightmare rather than a fantasy. In the attempt to finding an economical yet clever outfit, I thought of being a Devil-in-Disguise. What would that be you ask? I would be a regular person, dressed sort of formally wearing little devil horns on my head. Very clever. Not. A few friends mentioned, wouldn’t it be funnier if I dressed up like the devil and wore a disguise mask like the one below?
Yes, it would! I have yet to decide what I will actually go with. My original costume below, the funnier version above, or something completely cliché like a naughty professor. What do you think?
I stumbled upon this http://lifeandmusicc.tumblr.com while searching for Miike Snow’s song Silvia (Roboberget Version) and I thank my lucky stars for it everyday. This version of Silvia which you can listen to on Miike Snow’s Myspace is an amazing song and very hard to track down so when I found it on Life and Music, I was ecstatic. The selection and quality of the music you will find on the site is impeccable, in my humble opinion. I’ve been on a big house music kick lately (I blame it on my brainwashingly amazing trip to Vegas at the end of last summer) and this site has sort of become my drug. Even if you aren’t into house, you will find some great hiphop and even folk music (think Edward Sharpe) on Life and Music. The site also has a stream of the all the music hosted on it which turns it into a makeshift radio station for me during the day. Do yourself a favor and click on the image below to visit the site and discover some kick*ss new music!
A very stylish male friend of mine from the advertising world is as GQ as a guy can get. Apart from the standard men’s magazines, I asked him what his go to men’s fashion sites are and he was happy to share his list.
I have been collection some great RSS feeds of Fashion Bloggers out of Toronto and thought it is only fair to send some credit back their way and spread the love on The Stylester. Here’s a list of all things fashionable and Torontonian on my Google Reader. Hope you like them!
My MTV VMAs viewing party was almost one month ago and I’m seriously overdue for this post, but here it is! I held a viewing party at my apartment, sponsored by Proactiv, to watch the MTV VMAs with some girlfriends so we could chat about the craziness that may occur (think Kanye West’s stunt last year) real time instead of dishing about it the next day and tweet about it as it happened.
My bloggy bestie, Sammy Davis joined me to watch/tweet/blog and cheer on Proactiv spokespeople Justin Bieber and Katy Perry while munching on some delicious vegan food and sip some wine on September 12th when the VMAs aired. We were really excited with Justin Bieber won a Moonman! Due to a soggy and rainy day there were some last minute cancellations but we made the most of it. Here are some photos from the night.
I was give the amazing opportunity to watch Hollywood hunk Edward Burns’ new directorial feature, Nice Guy Johnny, by Jet Set Girls via Karen Robinovitz and Kendra Bracken-Fergu. The screening was held at Meet at the Apartment, an intimate and chic venue that provided the perfect place to connect with Edward Burns who was on hand for a few words as the actor/director/producer before the movie. Beautiful co-star Kerry Bishé was also there, dressed in a super-cute outfit by Eskell and she stuck around till the end of the movie for a Q&A session as well.
The 2010 MTV VMAs are just a few days away and excitement and anticipation is brewing for what craziness might go down during the show. Last year we saw Lady Gaga covered in blood then hung by her neck, a daring aerial performance by Pink and who can forget Kanye’s I’mma let you finishstunt with poor Taylor Swift?
This year we can expect huge appearances by Drake -my favorite Canadian artist, Eminem, Nicki Minaj – the fiercest lady in music, Ke$ha, Katy Perry-who is up for best female video of the year and Justin Bieber-my second favorite Canadian artist and absolute cutie (just watch this homemade Youtube video from his early days if you need to be convinced) who is up for best new artist of the year.
Since Katy Perry and Justin Bieber are spokespeople for Proactiv, TheStylester was invited to participate in Proactiv’s first ever blogger viewing party on September 12, 9pm! A viewing party is always fun and especially if it is sponsored by Proactiv. A few select blogger friends will be joining me in voting for Justin and Katy, watching the VMAs, live blogging and Tweeting under this hashtag #ProactivVMAs from my apartment. We invite you to join us on Twitter and tweet alongside us during the viewing party, so don’t forget to vote and mark your calendar for the VMAs!
