Beatles and WuTang – Enter The Magical Mystery Chambers Mashup

Posted on 17 March 2010 by Ritu

My colleague, the beat-master percussionist has been listening to this mashup at the office non-stop for a couple of weeks and it has grown on me. Actually, it’s grown into me and all over and now I’m obsessed as well. Tom Caruana is the genius behind this musical masterpiece called Wu-Tang Vs. The Beatles – Enter The Magical Mystery Chambers. The best parts of the collection are the Beatles Mania news snippets and interviews from the 70s. My favorite track on the album is Got Your Money followed by Forget Me Not.

Feel It – Three 6 Mafia vs Tiesto

Posted on 02 March 2010 by Ritu

Having danced the night away at a Tiesto concert till 8am, I’m no stranger to the crazy energy that he brings into a club. Teaming up with hit makers such as Three 6 Mafia, Flo Rida and Sean Kingston, Tiesto brings us his first venture into the new land of hip-pop, and we love it!

I can’t even imagine how much fun these guys must have had while making this song.

John Mayer at Madison Square Garden – Review

Posted on 26 February 2010 by Ritu

I went to see John Mayer at Madison Square Garden last night and what a great show it was! Although the stadium wasn’t completely packed, it was filled with the bustle of fans ranging from drunken teenagers to cute elderly couples watching the show holding hands.

Mayer started off with hits from his new album, Battle Studies, before going into different versions of his classic hits like Daughters and Gravity. His guitar riffs were amazing – he delivered as expected. Mayer usually likes to create his own version of a classic song by American singer-songwriters for concerts; his version of Free Falling by Tom Petty from his John Mayer Trio tour is one of favorite covers of all time. He chose Ain’t No Sunshine by Bill Withers this time for his Battle Studies tour at MSG. At the risk of sounding extremely sappy,  I have to admit that John Mayer made the song cry with his guitar and my eyes might have been a bit on the watery side towards the end – but was that because of the music or all the smoke in the air at the garden? Despite the drunken teens with their fake IDs and grinding dance moves (yes, at a concert – they had to be from the Jersey shore), the screaming JM lovestruck women and a very smokey atmosphere  I am not complaining. I loved every minute of it. After all what else can you expect at a concert by the guy that sang “Who says I can’t get stoned…”

On My Radar

Concert

What: John Mayer at Madison Square Garden
When: February – Thursday 25 and Friday 26, 2010
Where: Madison Square Garden, NYC

Ever since becoming obsessed with John Mayer and his music around the time that I wrote this post here, I’ve been waiting impatiently to see him in concert. I am extremely excited to go his show at MSG on Thursday the 25th. There are still some tickets available on LiveNation, Craigslist and Ticketmaster. Snap one up and join me in the pleasure of having John Mayer croon to you, entertain you with his witty/charming/flirty commentary (I wonder whether he’ll mention his recent racy interview with Playboy) and blow your away with his guitar skills.

John Mayers Blog, Twitter and YouTube Channel

Posted on 12 March 2009 by Ritu

His Main Site: http://www.johnmayer.com/home

Blog: http://www.johnmayer.com/blog

Twitter: http://twitter.com/johncmayer

YouTube Channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/mayermusic

His Myspace: http://www.myspace.com/johnmayer

After reading just a few words on his blog, I’m so much more in love with him!

I shudder just to imagine the kind of torture it unleashes on all his ex-es. The worst thing about any breakup is having access to some sliver of personal information about your ex, because you get to peek into his life and see how cool and cute he is and miss him that much more. And from the E! News reputation, he apparently has had a lot of ‘ex-es’ including Jessica Simpson, who for some reason I don’t see as someone who’d spend a lot of time online.

Why do I loooove all this awesome JM online goodies?
Because this is the first time I got myself emerged in one artists different communication platforms. I know that Kanye is pretty active online, but other than that, I don’t know of many artists genuinely communicating with their fans and the rest of the world without being heavily prompted and censored by their publicists. I like how real John Mayer is in his posts, & I loved the one post about his Happy Holidays post which he signs off with “Your Friend, John”. Aweeeeeeee.

ADAM LAMBERT – New Love of My Life

Posted on 26 February 2009 by Ritu

I watched American Idol for the first time in like 3 years last night at the gym, and glad to report that I found a new TV celeb, pretty-boy to obsess over! I discovered Adam Lambert yesterday, and I’m slightly infatuated right now.

I can’t even keep looking at the TV screen when he’s on, and sings, or smiles. I have to look down! It’s like I’m a teenager and he’s making me blush. It’s crazy. His charisma somehow hits me in my weakest spot. Not to mention he is an absolutely amazing singer!

I’m hereby declaring my LOVE for ADAM LAMBERT!

I don’t feel pervy liking him because he’s actually older than me. Yay! Finally I can have a crush on a teen-idol without feeling old and resentful.

aaaah! i love you!!

Also, I wanted to quote what I twittered last night on my way home from the gym:

“Adam Lambert is my new hero. He literally is a combination of Edward Cullen, avg pretty boy, hipster, punk and fierce rocker. Love!

My new FAVE Canadian Band – Bury The Bully

Posted on 17 September 2008 by Ritu

Through the wonderful world of Twitter, I discovered the newest love of my life: the rock band Bury the Bully.

I was randomly “followed” on Twitter by the grace of the band’s marketing and word of mouth efforts, and what a pleasant surprise! I went on their website just because I saw that they are a Canadian band from a town close to my hometown of beautiful Toronto, and I am a very very loyal Canadian, as everyone who knows me will tell you. After being directed to their Myspace page and listening to the first song on the playlist, I was instantly addicted.

20somethingirl @ the M.I.A. concert

Posted on 10 June 2008 by Ritu

I discovered M.I.A. (www.miauk.com) about 3 years ago, from an independent/alternative artist feature on Much Music in Canada, and have loved her ever since. She’s very non-mainstream, but at the same time, people have called her the “Hannah Montana” for hipsters.

For someone like me, with more than enough exposure to South Asian music, I think I get a bit more out of her music. At first, I didn’t like her pro-Tamil Tigers imagery and lyrics, but now I don’t care much. I enjoy the music for what it is.

So, last Friday, June 6th 2008, I went to her concert in the McCarren Pool in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. It was a great concert! Her energy isn’t as high as other performers, but I loved it! It took a little while to pick up, but she had people get up on stage to dance, and of course I ran up, almost losing both my shoes in the process. Anyway, I made it up there, danced beside her! It was amazing! (She’s very pretty up-close btw.)
