Congratulation Team Canada – Olympic Hockey Winners

Posted on 01 March 2010 by Ritu

New York City is home to thousands of Canadians. The Facebook group for Canadians in New York alone has 1,348 members! A large group of Canadians could be found spread out between the bars Van Diemens and Arctica in Murrey Hill (and the surrounding bars who welcomed the spillover crowds) watching the Canada Olympic Hockey team compete against the best hockey playing nations in the world. The friendly and contagious energy that Canadians exude could be felt all around the intersection of 28th street and 3rd avenue. The Canadian New Yorkers and native Americans alike came together one last time during the final day of the Olympics to anxiously watch the fight for Gold. With Canada scoring the first goal and USA scoring a goal during the last 60 seconds of the game to tie the game and take it to overtime, it definitely was an intense game. As Canada scored the winning goal in overtime the entire bar exploded in cheers, chants and the Canadian National Anthem. 28th and 3rd was the place to be for New York Canucks on Sunday night! Stylester extends its congratulations to Team Canada for the win and to both teams for a fantastic game.

Pop Champagne – Pommery Pop Rosé

Posted on 25 February 2010 by Ritu

Looking for a fun drink to serve at your next party or event but don’t want to play bartender all night? At a recent press event I went to at the Crosby Street Hotel in SoHo, instead of having bar tenders slave away behind the bar spilling, clunking and churning together drinks, the hosts served only champagne. Only is an understatement because guest got individual bottles of Pommery Pop Rosé mini champagne with straws!

Definitely an upgrade from individual sized wine bottles, these funky little champagne bottles are wrapped in reflective pink foil and can be sipped straight from the bottle with a straw. Champagne with a straw? Some might roll their eyes on this, but it’s a new and fun way to sip on some bubbly!

Pick up a single bottle for $12.99 or a four-pack for $43.95.

NYC Clubhopping with T-Dot BFF

Posted on 02 May 2009 by Ritu

My BFF from Toronto came to visit me in NYC a couple of weekends ago and blessed me with her party-ing superstar ways. It was awesome to have her in my new home in NYC… she definitely brought back some of the hometown that I sometimes miss about Toronto. We caught up on life, growing up, boys, and most of all partying! We took TONS of photos but somehow lost my camera somewhere in the middle of things so to reminess and remember our fun nights out, I tried to re-capture our outfits from each night.

The Secret Hidden Bars of New York City

This is just a list for now… I am in the process of cleaning it up but wanted to publish it just for the sake of doing so today.

Mercato 55 - Underground party

UNDERGROUND BARS

- Literally! they are below the ground and hidden under a different restaurant (usually a fast food joint).

APT – not so hidden, nor is it underground, but I didn’t know about it and loved it.

Wanted Leo Dicaprio, but got Rob Schneider instead

Posted on 27 January 2009 by Ritu

I dragged two of my girlfriends out to Butter about a month ago hoping to find Leonardo Dicaprio there since I got first hand account from a friend who’d seen him there. Butter is apparently the hottest Monday night place in NYC right now. Celebrities like Leo, Shakira, Football players, hip hop producers, etc. etc. Oh and not to mention, every single model in the city! Me and my 5 foot 4 felt like a midget when I was there.

I got there after my bellydance class with BellyQueen across the street. while doing my make-up I even managed to get locked in the studio.

What I wore: black halter, with lots of silky ruffles in the front, and melt butter on your back low cut, liquid leggings, and silver heeled slingbacks. I mention this because after waiting around for about 30 mins, when the door guy (a skinny white guy in a worn in brown leather jacket and beany) came up, and after almost begging him, he looked me up and down, hair to heels, as well as my friends, before decididing that we were worthy of entering.

It was quite an experience just to go through that, as it was my first. Well, once we were in and checked our coats, we were lead through a hidden door in the wall to the club downstairs below the restaurant. The music was too ‘housey’ at first but as the place got packed around 12:45-1ish, it picked up to hip-hop (old school and new), rock, pop, and a bit of everything all mixed together and the spinning was awesome and seamless, even between Fall Out Boys and Kanye.

So, right before the club got super packed, I’m standing there, shyly holding my flute of champagne, trying to not look intimated by all the models, and I see Rob Schneider walk in, cross the room looking for people, and walk back out. He looked pretty much like this photo, just without the hat. I was hoping for Leo, but Rob totally made my night!

So I have insider information that Leonardo Dicaprio often frequents Butter on Monday nights after midnight.

I’ve been there for dinner and it wasn’t that great, but CANNOT wait to check it out for clubbing. Guess where I’ll be next Monday?

I met Robert Buckley a.k.a. Kirby from Lipstick Jungle!

Posted on 28 September 2008 by Ritu

On Saturday night, on an eventful girls night out in the Meat Packing district in NYC, I met Robert Buckley!!! You might not recognize his real name, but does Kirby from Lipstick Jungle ring a bell? How about his photo?

Robert Buckley aka Kirby Atwood aka Hunk

This is how it all went down…

So, as we (the girls and I) were walking into the club Tenjune, I saw him walk out towards to bathroom, and I pretty much FREAKED out! I was slightly tipsy at this point so my freak out was a little more than normal. After my friends, which includes Jen, another huge Lipstick Jungle fan, calmed me down, I proceeded to try and act normal. At the club, we were dancing right next to him and his 2 other friends. As the night went on, and I got tipsy-er and ‘braver’, I impulsively turned around as said to him: “You look familiar!” and he goes “Oh my god! Highschool?”.

Yes, it was slightly smug and cocky, but it was also slightly stupid of me to just talk to him at a club while he was just trying to hang out. He was actually quite civil, spoke to me, introduced himself as Rob, and even his friend who happened to be named Bob. Then they both politely cheersed (?… toasted?) me which was a clear sign that they wanted to be left alone.

Well, thanks ROB for being nice and gracing me with your presence! I’m a little embarrassed now about talking to him, but I blame it on being starstruck.

From Diablo Royale to Down the Hatch – what a long way down

Posted on 13 September 2008 by Ritu

Friday Sept 12th in NYC was a rainy gloomy day, the kind of day that makes me want to curl up on the couch, order Indian food and watch Bollywood movies all night, despite the fact that it was a Saturday night.

Upon checking with my roommate whether she had any Hindi movies at home, I was sadly informed that she didn’t. But, she ended up inviting me out to get a drink with her friends at Diablo Royale in the West Village (Near Shridan Sq right outside of Christopher st. subway stop on the 1,2,3 line).

I’d been to Diablo once before with her, and absolutely loved it! They have the best cocktails in the city hands down! The Mojito Margarita there is my favorite (although that’s the only drink I’ve tried there, nothing else could possibly be better!)

I eagerly agreed to join her, but once I got there, the party was moving on and en route to Down the Hatch – a really divey NYU hangout, also frequented by afterwork constuction workers and older professionals in search for “good old days” memories. (at West 4th and Bleecker st.)

Hadn’t been for the great company of Alicia and Friends, and two pretty good pints of Cherry Wheat beer, the scattered chicken wing bones and smelly bathroom of Down The Hatch might not have been as pleasant as it was.

Where I thought I was going

Where I ended up

How To Get Into the Gramercy Park Hotel Rooftop Bar

Posted on 06 July 2008 by Ritu

How To Get Into the Gramercy Park Hotel Rooftop Bar

  1. Go on a long weekend when all the New Yorkers are out of town and it’s deserted anyway.
  2. Walk into the lobby, act cool, don’t rush! and make your way to the front desk. Don’t go straight to the elevator because it doesn’t work without a key card.
  3. Tell them you want to go up to the Roof Club. If they ask whether you are staying at the hotel, say “Not tonight.” (and cross your fingers and toes and hope it works!
