I was pointed to Lauren Conrad’s beauty site, TheBeautyDepartment.com by one of my fave PR girls at Siren PR. I’ve always admired LC’s girl next door but polished California beauty and have been a long time fan of Amy Nadine, the genius behind LC’s looks.
Check it out:
Also, featured on LC’s site is the hottest new hair trend for the summer – Rainbow tips!
The trend alert also comes courtesy of senior Colorist at Cutler Salon on 57th Street in NYC, Dallas Walsh. In his words: “This new rainbow trend is an extension of the ombre looks we’ve been seeing since winter. We’ve had a lot of requests to add shots of color and tipping. Feather extensions were the big craze as we transitioned into summer but now that everyone’s wearing those a fresh way to make your hair pop is to add rainbow tips. The rainbow ombre is a fun, vibrant way to add a pop to your style and will look great on all hair colors.”
He also recommends that if you think it is too much to mess with your hair to die it so many colors, try the look with extensions.
Hello to all the readers & my fellow stylesters. A big apology for not keeping up with posting regularly on TheStylester. I have some big news to share! My news/excuse/reason for falling behind on posts is that I’m moving to London! I’ve been traveling back and forth and all over the place trying to organize this cross-Atlantic move.
I’ve dreamed of living in the UK ever since I was a little girl and still can’t believe I am getting the chance to do it. What’s taking me there is an opportunity to work in digital advertising in London, but to be honest, the travel opportunities in Europe is what really convinced me to go for it.
So, there will be some changes; in my life and on TheStylester.com. Instead of NYC’s streetstyle, you’ll see London’s, UK brands and labels will take up many posts and the unique culture of the amazing city will be the inspiration behind a lot of my writing. My love for my two homes in New York City and Toronto will remain visible as I’m sure I will want to keep spreading the word on new and notable lovely things from those two cosmopolitans.
Am I scared? Yes. Am I excited? Obviously! Any move and life change is big and scary but when opportunity knocks, you must open the door and let it in. Also, London fashion and the amazing streetstyle is pumping me up! So stay tuned and perk up those ears, because London is calling.

I stumbled upon AB Chao’s website through the Apartment Therapy newsletter earlier on this week. You might be wondering, what is Apartment Therapy and who is AB Chao? Apartment Therapy is my new obsession. The book, written by Maxwell Gillingham-Ryan and by the same name is my new home and living bible and the blog is a daily destination. AB Chao is a writer, interior stylist and photographer based in Louisiana. I love the look and feel of the site and it’s great to read about a woman who can be successful, a mom and manage to remain cool! Check it out.
Put This On is great men’s fashion site that I found through Say 100′s most influential voices in a couple of categories like Style, Tech and Business. I’m loving this site, so guys, check it out!
Karen Harvey, an entrepreneurial minded go-getter, along with Fashion Group International hosted a panel on entrepreneuship featuring some young emerging leaders in the fashion industry. To cover new media, there were the founders Jennifer Hyman and Jenny Fleiss from RenttheRunway.com, to go over traditional retail, with a twist of course, there were the founders of Opening Ceremony Carol Lim and Humberto Leon and to represent youth there were the super fresh designers and founders of Vena Cava, Sophie Buhai and Lisa Mayock. Karen created this amazing video to summarize the spirit of the panel and provide an introduction that I wanted to share:
Inspiration was abound during the discussion. As an impressionable, hungry, young professional, I was particularly susceptible to the inpirational messages Karen urged and drew out of the panelists. Messages such as strive to blend courage with learning and keep things fresh by taking on projects you know nothing about yet, that’s new and will require courage. In return you will learn and stay engaged on what you are doing. The encouragement to go with your gut, especially if you have an knot in your stomach about it. Use your naiveté as an advantage and bring that fresh faced energy and enthusiasm into seemingly unrealistic goals. Be courageous and take the leap.
The Panelists and Karen Harvey.
Being in the same room and being given the chance to have a conversation with such young talent who have executed on their creativity was truly a treat. I was being inspired just from sheer osmosis. After speaking with Lisa from Vena Cava, I saw that we weren’t so different after all. She is young, just like me. She is ambitious and creative, just like me. She blogs, just like me and she gets knots in her stomach about big ideas and projects, just like me. Being a fashion house, ready to take on the haute world and rock the retail sphere like Vena Cava is not my ambition, but if Lisa and Sophie could actualize their dream, with a little more osmosis, so can I.
According to Ad Age, the Grammy’s saw the highest tune in since 2001, especially among a younger audience of 18-34. Why are we caring about the Grammy’s and tuning in more for the first time in 10 years? Because of the hotter starts, crazy performances (think Gaga) and great fashion of course. There are a few obvious winners when it came to fashion at the Grammy’s. Here are some of my favorites, including some underdogs like an old favorite, Janelle Monae.
Janelle Monae at the Grammy’s 2011. Always in a tux but always flawlessly beautiful.
Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and you’ve been a bad girlfriend and have not gotten a gift for your boyfriend. Fear not because here are some quick and easy gifts you can get him that he’ll love, or at least pretend to if he’s a good BF.
Idea # 1
Treat him to a manlicure and grooming session, then take him out to wine and dine him. Turning the table around and pampering a guy can be super cute and he will appreciate it.
Idea # 2
Along the same lines as idea # 1, you can give him a makeover! If he is willing of course. Take him shopping if he’s up for it, (ask first since most guys hate shopping) and pay for everything.
Idea # 3
Plan a fun day outdoors. Yes it is February and it is winter, but dress warm, put on your your cute matching scarf and mitts and hit up a few outdoor spots while unleashing as much PDA as possible upon the world.
Idea # 4
Take him whiskey or beer tasting. It’s not the most romantic thing, but if you can hang with him like one of the guys, he’ll feel that much closer to you.
Idea # 5
Plan a ski-day complete with cozying up in the lodge and then warming up in a cabin by the fireplace.
Idea #6
Make him something with your own hands! Try one these from Valetmag.com or P.S. I Made This.
Happy February everyone! Pinch and a punch for the first of the month! It’s the month for love and I’m sure as many of you us dreading it as are eager for it because let’s not pretend we don’t realize that Valentine’s day is 13 days away.
Here’s a list that readers in both camps can get something out of; the cheesiest things I could think of doing in New York City on Valentine’s day. If you are inspired, carry one of these out! If you are not, roll your eyes and have a chuckle.
The restaurant One if by Land and Two if By Sea is constantly voted as the top most romantic restaurant in NYC. Why not go there and be surround by 5 other original couples proposing to each other all at once?

Christmas came and went, hopefully we got all the presents we had wished for and hoping even more that we didn’t eat enough rich holiday food for an entire starving ANTM house. The chances are we did, or at least I did, and therefore am desperately searching for a serious cleansing diet which will miraculously take that extra inch around my waist away and get me in shape to wear a slinky dress for New Years Eve.
This is the cleanse or diet that I have settled on, taking parts of Gwyneth Paltrow’s post-Christmas diet and mixing them in with what works for my body:
What not to eat during my Post-Christmas Cleansing Diet:
No carbs (including rice, bread, potatoes, pasta) – at least try to and give in to a little piece of bread or pita when you eventually break down
Less salt, because salt retains water and makes you look bloated
No cheese
No alcohol
No sugar
What is OK to eat during my Post-Christmas Cleansing Diet:
Natural sweeteners like honey
Meat but in small portions
Fruit and fresh fruit juices and smoothies
Coffee (I know I shouldn’t but can’t function without it)
Yogurt, preferably Greek yogurt with honey
Lots of tea
Lots of water
What usually works as a quick weight loss strategy is to replace all your main meals in the day with two smaller meals. If you are a breakfast person, try having just tea or juice first thing in the morning with a big glass of water. At 10am, have fruits and handful of raw almonds. Eat a small salad or humus and veggie sticks or a small pita for the first part of lunch at 12pm. At 2pm, eat the rest of your lunch. Make sure to get a snack that’ll wake you up around 3:30pm. Plan for an early dinner and eat a small portion at around 5pm or 6pm. Finish up with a big helping of fruits at 8pm. Drink plenty of water and tea and honey till you go to bed.
According to Marie Clair, Gwyneth Paltrow’s detox diet includes a breakfast smoothie, carrot and ginger salad for lunch and broccoli soup for dinner. She snacks on a handful of nuts in between. Personally, that’s too intense for me and what I wrote above is just a general guideline. Just be careful, exercise and eat healthy and you will look and feel your best in your New Year Eve dress!
