Shibuya Streetstyle in Tokyo

Posted on 11 May 2012 by Ritu

(Tokyo) The Far East, the Land of the Rising Sun, whatever you might call it… I call it Amazing! I visited Japan for the first time ever this month and was completely blown away. As I mentioned in my last post, that “being there is fashionably more inspiring than reading a million fashion mags” and I am saying it again here. The neighbourhood of Shibuya, where hipsters, fashionistas and artists gather has a legendary cross intersection which I simply had to film. The video, which I made with the Miniatures app on my iPhone, shows the organised mayhem that happens at the intersection.

Channelling Alexander Wang

Posted on 09 May 2012 by Ritu

(London) It is May and summer is upon most of the world except for London. Still rainy and cold, the city is stretching out my winter wardrobe to the max hence a post featuringe an outfit that is more Autumn than Spring/Summer.

I was on a trip to Japan recently and just being there is fashionably more inspiring than reading a million fashion mags. Everyone is stylish and there are plenty of individuals with unique style. There are the cookie cutter girls in their frilly dresses and high heels but hanging out in Shibuya, the hipster neighbourhood of Tokyo – as Williamsburg is to New York or Camden is to London, I saw plenty of people in relaxed yet statement making outfits. This is what inspired me to go Wang and buy an oversized sweater for the first time ever (I’m all about fitted clothes that look tailor made). The sweater I’m wearing here is super cozy and bought at Neon Soda in the iconic Shibuya 109 shopping centre.

I’m wearing an oversized sweater from Neon Soda, a denim button up shirt from HM underneath, dark skinny jeans from Uniqlo bought in Japan for a steal and my favourite wedges from Spring that I’ve worn here and here.

Vaute Couture Coat

Posted on 30 March 2012 by Ritu

(New York) The first time I had heard of ‘Vegan clothing’ was via Avril Lavigne and to be honest, I wasn’t sold. It seemed like hype more than anything but after learning about the socially and environmentally responsible Vegan clothing movement, I am a big supporter. One such Vegan brands that has recently been on my radar is Vault Couture that was introduced to me by my good friend and fellow blogger, Laurel of Laurel on Health Food. She recently won a vegan winter coat at a vegetarian food festival courtesy of Vaute Couture and gave me the opportunity to feature her on The Stylester!

Here, she is wearing the Oru coat by Vaute Couture. Buy the Oru coat on sale right now for $185.

Laurel is wearing a Vaute Couture Oru Coat in soft black, H&M blue skinny trousers, Fossil key-per pouch (clutch), Ann Taylor snakeskin pumps and U.S. Polo Assn. sunglasses.

More about Vaute Couture

Vaute Couture was launched by model Leanne Mai-ly Hilgart and is made with 100% vegan materials. The coats by the brand are are made of recycled and recyclable fibers and constructed locally in NYC’s fashion district.

Pleated Skirt and Lita Boots

Posted on 08 March 2012 by Ritu

(London) I’m kind of obsessed with my pleated skirt as you can see in a previous post here and am currently fighting off wardrobe fatigue by wearing it over and over again. Here I went for a less girly and more androgyny effect by pairing it will loads of black, collared, rolled sleeves and power boots – my favourite Jeffrey Campbell Lita’s.

I’m wearing a Theory cropped jacket, my favourite pleated skirt and my Jeffrey Campbell Lita boots.

I wore a silk blend black shirt with cuffed short sleeve from Bebe and a studded belt from DVF under the jacket during the day – to balance out the über feminine skirt.

(London) Remember Jason who showed us how London gents dress it up and go preppy? He’s back to show us how they get down and casual.

Pleated Skirt Trend for Spring

Posted on 17 February 2012 by Ritu

(London) Right in the hight of the holiday season in December, two fashion trends were all the rage in London. The Fur hat that I blogged about here and the pleated skirt. For about a 2 week period, it was impossible to walk down Oxford or Regent street without nearly physically colliding with a girl in a long or midi pleated skirt. I spotted one while Boxing Day shopping for a steal (only £7!) and snapped it right up. A little late on the trend wagon but this skirt is going to transition beautifully into Spring. For the time being while I wait for winter to wind away, I’m wearing it with over-the-knee flat boots and cropped sweaters.

Pleated Skirt Trend - transitioning from winter to spring

I’m wearing a pleated skirt from one of those random shops in the mall (£7.00), a merino sweater from Miss Selfridges, skinny studded belt from DVF and flat over-the-knee boots from ASOS. My locket necklace is from the Canadian store, Mexx.

I love the movement in this skirt!

Mr. Stylester – London prep-ster look

Posted on 23 January 2012 by Ritu

(London) I realise that I am clearly overdoing the ‘ster thing here but I can’t think of a better way to describe my friend Jason’s style. Preppy plus hipster, that sums him up most days (except for his lumberjack or skipper days).  Here, he shows off the cool elegance of London men in a pea-coat and brogues. If black is the NYC uniform, then this is London’s.

Jason is wearing a COS Pea-coat, a COS Shirt, ALBAM Jeans, UNIQLO socks and Mark Mcnairy Suede Brogues.

Toronto Streetstyle Love

Posted on 04 January 2012 by Ritu

(Toronto) 1 LOVE T.O is probably the best Toronto blog and I have been a reader for a couple of years now. With a great logo and above all, great content, it takes pride in the city and shows it off blatantly. To extend the love, they have created this cool T-Shirt that is popping up everywhere. Jonathan below stood out especially in his tee so I’m extending some love here as well.

Fishtail dresses and sweaters

Posted on 22 December 2011 by Ritu

(London) One of the lingering trends of the summer, thanks to end of season sales, is the fishtail dress. Short in the front and long in the back, these are kind of the reverse mullets of dresses. Party in the front, business in the back!

Here’s how I wore a very affordable fishtail dress with an asymmetric/bias cut cardi a few days ago.

Aldo teams up with Top Canadian Bloggers on Lookbook.nu

Posted on 21 December 2011 by Ritu

(Toronto) One of the biggest Canadian retail brands to go international and successfully so is undoubtedly Aldo. The brand makes fashionable footwear at reasonable prices, offering the best trends of the season as well as good old staples which keeps customers going back. Growing up in Canada, I’ve been shopping there since my early teen years. Back then, it was the only option for shoes for me and yes, I’ve graduated to designer labels and eccentric styles like my beloved Jeffrey Campbell Lita’s but I still visit Aldo frequently.

Increasing my love for the brand, Aldo has teamed up with some of the top Canadian bloggers on Lookbook.nu - Ivy Xu from Vancouver, Bobby Raffin from Toronto and Breanne S. from Winnipeg.

Here are their photos from the collaboration:
