I definitely felt a little left out this year to be missing Fashion’s Night Out in NYC. The city where the whole idea originated ups the ante every year with bigger and better parties sponsored by stores big and small. Mira, a fabulous New Yorker, brings us some highlights of the best FNO in the world (and I can say that because I’ve experienced the second best in London which tried, but didn’t quite compare).
Mira reports that white and red was the favoured color for most designers. As usual, free champagne, delicious treats and and goodie bags attracted most traffic. Some noticeable events were put on by Sephora who had a DJ, free make-up and was giving everyone roses in the street. The lucky few who were able to get in got more goodies to take home. People definitely dressed to impress which was apparent even on the streets. Loud music from each store and all the dolled-up people outside on the streets made the whole city feel like a big party scene.

A special thanks to Mira for contributing from New York City.
I Loved the soft wispy flowing straight hair seen at the Tory Burch Fall 2011 show at New York Fashion Week. Kérastase partnered with the famous stylist, Odile Gilbert to create this perfect blow out following the steps below:
Apply a walnut sized amount of Ciment Thermique to wet hair. Gently massage into the lengths and ends
Part hair in the middle and blow dry hair using a round brush
Once hair is completely dry, apply a dime sized amount of Elixir Ultime throughout hair to provide a luminous and radiant shine
I have had the Elixir Ultime used on my hair at my favorite NYC salon, Michaelangelo’s Wonderland, and I can personally vouch for it. It is magic!
The deep colors and rich textures of Rolando Santana’s Fall 2011 collection were shown off in the makeup for the show as well.
Joey Casmata from MAC Cosmetics gave the models a beautiful dark lip in dark red, ocre, ebony and purple shades. The skin was matted with prominent cheek bones.
Hair was done by Patrick Melville of Artists by Timothy Priano, who created a beautiful cascade of shiny hair on the models. Smooth on top and slight feminine curls on the bottom was a classic look that complemented the clothes. For evening wear, the hair was bunched up in a lose bun at the nape of the neck which created a clean and carefree look.

Thakoon showed an elegant chignon with a very tribal twist at the Fall 2011 show which was inspired by bold colors and tribal prints worn by the African Masai tribe. Odile Gilbert collaborated with the designer to create the unique look. Grab some Kérastase products which he used and follow these steps to get the look:
Apply a walnut sized amount of Nectar Thermique to wet hair and gently massage into the lengths and ends. Blow-dry straight.
Part hair at the crown and create a zig-zag braid to serve as the foundation for the look
Bobby pin the deconstructed woolen beanie to the braid and weave 1-inch sections of hair around the fabric, creating a basket-weave type pattern
Spray hair with Chroma Cristal to give hair a beautiful shine
Alternate the hair with the fabric until the beanie is completely intertwined and all loose ends of hair are tucked into a chignon-like up-do
Finish with Double Force Controle Ultime Hair Spray to hold hair in place
I am really excited to see what’s in store this fashion week for the Rolando Santana show. The SS 2011 show last year was great and from the preparations seen in this preview video, this one promises to surpass it in presentation.
Corey Kindberg is my Fashion Week hero. A youngn’, a freshman at local fashion school LIM college and simply fierce, the man found a way to sneak past several security checkpoints, monstrous bouncers, stressed out and frantic PR people and hundreds of other fashion obsessed fanatics.
According to him, all you need is a dark pair of shades, your Blackberry, your best outfit and an over the top amount of attitude!
New York Fashion Week is almost here and the whole town and all my favorite fashion sites and blogs are abuzz with excitement. Everyone wants to attend and somehow be a part of the epic fashion event. Even if you don’t go to a fashion show or after party for NYFW, you can feel in the loop with New York Mag’s The Cut free mobile app. Take out your iPhones and get downloading the app and then the fashion and gossip.
(Times like these I wish my Blackberry was an iPhone… only rare times like these.)
