Miami Fashion Week is a totally different affair compared the New York Fashion Week with beach parties and sand instead of hotel parties and snow. Its fitting that Miami is the best place for designers to showcase their swimwear collections. The monokini, which was hugely popular this summer was seen on the runway as well as tattoo art bikinis from Ed Hardy and lacy lingerie style bikinis from Beach Bunny. My favorite designer from Miami Fashion Week this year was definitely Mara Hoffman and her monokini below is the winner of my favorite swimsuit from the show.
Lady Gaga has sported many different types of eyewear. The first being her lightning bolt, then the round shades and eventually even spectacles made of lit cigarettes (which were seen on Gaga fans at her concert in NYC recently). Here is a pair that has a lot of her style and a little of her drama making it a eyewear that might actually make an appearance on others.
These shades, made by Kerin Rose come with a big price tag and even bigger “look at me” factor. It has a high DIY potential and I can see this popping up at the sunglass stalls on St. Marks in the fall. Even though you may not be able to look through them very much, they are guaranteed to get you lots of looks if you dare to wear them. Buy them here.
Yes, it is one of the hottest days of the year here in New York, but since Fall’s collections are already starting to show up in our favorite stores, I couldn’t resist announcing my favorite fall accessory to have come down the catwalks at the couture fashion shows in Paris this week.
Valentino showed models wearing these super cute bow gloves along with short dresses as well as evening wear.
It’s common knowledge now that boat shoes are very in. All the stylish men in our lives are being spotted in these all over the city with styles ranging from black, tan, neon, leather, suede and canvas. This pair from Sperry is my favorite of the moment. I love them because they look completely traditional in construction, in its sole and leather laces but the canvas adds a new-ness to the look to keep it fresh and original. The best part is that you can get them for your BF or best boy bud for only $70!
Summer is officially here and with it is the necessity to have some great new summer sandals for everyday wear. I love these flats from Zigi NYC because they embody the sparkly fresh feel of summer. If you haven’t seen the ankle strappy and embellished look all over the city already, get ready because they will be a hot trend this season.
This updated version of the gladiator trend combines a tough look with bohemian and flirty details like beads, braided leather and chains. They are comfortable but will dress up an outfit instantly for those of us who like to add some drama into their wardrobe during the day.
Did you always think that the beach is a no makeup, fancy clothes, jewelery or heels zone? I used to think so too till I started to take inspiration from some of my favorite celebrities on the beach and some my friends who would wear cheap earring even when swimming in the ocean. I started with earrings, then graduated to waterproof eyeliner for a beachy cat-eye look and finally to braving wearing heels to the beach.
When wearing heels on the beach, it is very important to wear wedges to avoid your feet from sinking and swimming in the sand. Below are my top three picks of the perfect beach wedges.
I saw these Coach wedges in the window of their 5th Avenue store and had to do a double take. These espadrilles have a sky high look because the ropes come all the way up to the back of the ankle. I’m obsessed with them!
I am a HUGE fan of Rachel Roy and my love for her grew by 500% after I met her at Fashion’s Night Out during NYFW Spring 2010 last year. The 30 minutes of waiting in drizzle just to get in through the door of her pop up store in SoHo, fighting the crowds and helplessly spending a ton of money on RRR accessories that I just couldn’t resist was all worth it for the 30 second conversation I had with Rachel that evening. She flew in and out, shaking hands, hugging and kissing her celebrity friends like Estelle, Iman and Knaan, who were all there to support her. I managed to grab her attention right as she was leaving and she graciously posed for this photo with me, smiling the whole time and asking what my background was – we are both from Bengali origin. Aaaand I was in love.
Rachel Rachel Roy Spring Collection – Scarves
My love for RR grows every time I see her new collections. Her vibrant color and bold patterns keeps me coming back for more. I have favorite pieces from the RRR Spring collection which I will highlight in a future post – this one is all about the scarves. As the owner of over a dozen scarves, I’m not picky. I love scarves. They are easy to bundle up and throw into your purse on a spring day when the weather can be unpredictable and the right scarf can lend a whole lot of attitude to any outfit. The one from the RRR Spring collection that I loved most is the Ikat Wrap Scarf in Jade fabric. When looked at closely, the vibrant colors create a pattern that reminds me of a South Asian mixed with West African fabric.
My top three picks are (left to right) the Love and Peace Scarf, the Ikat Wrap Scarf and the Two Tone Fringe Scarf. See all of them here.
I’m not a weddings expert or a bride-to-be, but I was instantly ready to say I Do to these gorgeous Chinese Laundry Wedding Head over Heels shoes. The platform is very of the moment, the lace is timeless and the ribbon and bow add a bit of a fashion statement.
Most brides decide to go with long ground skimming wedding gowns. These shoes are perfect for the walk down the aisle because when the bride will be gliding towards the alter, the ankle details will be hidden by the gown. Later on when it time to dance up a storm at the reception, the cute little bow and details will be visible as she picks up her dress to move around.
In addition to all the gorgeous details, the best part about these shoes is the price! They are only $99! You can also find affordable shoes to match for your bridesmaids within the collection.
Talking about these shoes are really making me want to get married so I’ll stop now and send you over to the rest of the Chinese Laundry Wedding collection. A big congratulations to all the brides of 2010!
While snowboarding in Vermont over the winter, I noticed two things: 1. boarding is more painful than it is fun and 2. headphones are almost as prominent on the hills as fancy snow gear. The snowbunnies and boarders in Vermont and upstate New York are already huge fans of Skullcandy – brightly coloured and old-school looking headphones. I saw these on young pro skiers and snowboarders all over the hills and in the lodge. While the girls sported hot pink and magenta Skullcadies, the guys had on neon greens and baby blues like the Aqua print one below.
The great sound quality and loud, look-at-me colours and styles of Skullcandy has already made them a hit up North and I predict that the music lovin’ skater crowd of the Lower East Side will pick up on them soon.
