NARS Deep Throat Blush Review

Having a dark Indianesque complexion, I was never convinced that blush was for me. When I thought of rosy cheeks, I pictured porcelain skin with bright pink cheeks, kind of like you see in renaissance paintings. Then I started changing my mind slowly and decided to try a blush but of course went for the darkest shade I could get my hands on which was a purplish red from Revlon. It was great as a contour shade (yikes, that’s how mismatched it was) but brutal as a blush. I’ve included a photo from six years ago when I didn’t know a thing about makeup after the jump.

Then, as if by divine intervention, I received a sample of Nars Deep Throat Blush at a Lord and Taylor PR event in New York. After a few hand-held lessons at the store, I figured out the tricks of blushing and you can see the results after the jump as well.

As a review of Nars Deep Throat, I must say that it is much better suited for olive or cinnamon complexions than the famous Orgasm shade by Nars. Specks of gold in the blush add luminosity to it which is great for highlighting the apples of the cheeks and giving them a soft glow. The blush stays put throughout the day and I usually avoid reapplying because then I just end up with really golden cheeks instead of pink ones. The blush brightens up my complexion and is the best cure for a “dull skin day” – which are just as real as bad hair days!

Overall, Deep Throat is the perfect Nars blush for dark skin tone. It does the job of an Illuminator as well as a blusher. Buy it on the Nars site for £21.

BEFORE: My horrendous makeup mistakes from my very early twenties when I used a 5 shades too dark blush but more to contour than to highlight. That’s my very first cosmopolitan in my hand by the way!

AFTER: Thanks to the beauty goddesses and the genius that is Nars, I finally figured out how to use blush. This photo was taken in 2010 at an Avon event to launch Lauren Conrad’s collaboration with the brand.
