Summer Sandals

Posted on 31 May 2010 by Ritu

Summer is officially here and with it is the necessity to have some great new summer sandals for everyday wear. I love these flats from Zigi NYC because they embody the sparkly fresh feel of summer. If you haven’t seen the ankle strappy and embellished look all over the city already, get ready because they will be a hot trend this season.

This updated version of the gladiator trend combines a tough look with bohemian and flirty details like beads, braided leather and chains. They are comfortable but will dress up an outfit instantly for those of us who like to add some drama into their wardrobe during the day.

Streetstyle – West Village NYC – May 2010

Posted on 19 May 2010 by Ritu

I wore this outfit on a lazy Sunday bagel and coffee brunch at Bleecker Playgorund right before heading over to The Makeup Show NYC.

About this look

I picked up the green dress in China which is random since it looks so African inspired. Cinched with a corset-ish belt, it was the perfect Sunday afternoon outfit. Those shoes from Urban Outfitters are extremely comfortable too! Oh and do you like my new marc by marc jabobs bag? I got it at a steal at Nordstrom Rack!

Perfect Heels for the Beach – Wedges

Posted on 18 May 2010 by Ritu

Did you always think that the beach is a no makeup, fancy clothes, jewelery or heels zone? I used to think so too till I started to take inspiration from some of my favorite celebrities on the beach and some my friends who would wear cheap earring even when swimming in the ocean. I started with earrings, then graduated to waterproof eyeliner for a beachy cat-eye look and finally to braving wearing heels to the beach.

When wearing heels on the beach, it is very important to wear wedges to avoid your feet from sinking and swimming in the sand. Below are my top three picks of the perfect beach wedges.

I saw these Coach wedges in the window of their 5th Avenue store and had to do a double take. These espadrilles have a sky high look because the ropes come all the way up to the back of the ankle. I’m obsessed with them!

Michele Wedge from Coach – $218.00.

What to Wear to a Hiphop Concert in NYC

Posted on 17 May 2010 by Ritu

Nas and Damian Marley are performing in concert together at the Highline Ballroom tonight. As a huge fan of both artists, I am ecstatic to be going to the concert tonight but what do you wear to a hiphop concert?

Here are a few thumb rules to pick an outfit for a hiphop concert:

  1. Pick bright and bold colors! You want to be as loud as the music.
  2. Wear a bold lip and put time into doing your makeup and hair. Try out a funky rockstar hairstyle.
  3. Wear patent heels in a bright color like yellow. If you take a big purse, remember to pack a pair of patent flats as well since you’ll be on your feet the whole time.
  4. Show off your assets but always be careful. Protect yourself from unwanted attention and stay with your group of friends.

If you need a visual cheat sheet for a hiphop concert outfit, check out the below and have fun at the concert!

New Store in Union Square – Nordstrom Rack

Posted on 12 May 2010 by Ritu

Shopoholics and bargain hunters of New York, Rejoice! Starting today, there is a new store to satisfy our addiction to designer goods and amazing deals. Nordstrom Rack, one of the franchises that took over Virgin’s megastore that used to be in Union Square, had been under construction for months, teasing passers waiting to know what was being born behind those temporary construction walls.

Nordstrom card holders received an early invite to shop till they dropped on May 5th and 6th, while being kept fed with hors d’oeuvres and pour champagne by charming servers. The champagne was an excellent investment by the company since after one and a half glasses, I was rushing to the counter with armfuls of discount designer goodies to join dozens of other shoppers in the exact same state.

What can you expect to find at Nordstrom Rack, Union Square?

Think of anything you might find at a regular Nordstrom and there is a good chance you’ll find it at the Rack the season after. The clothes were fabulous but get ready to dig treasures and sizes. Although you wont find the elegance of a regular Nordstrom at the Rack, you’ll find items and discounts of your dreams.

I sneaked in to the store for a preview on May 6th and the excitement plus champagne resulted in a Marc by Marc Jacobs purse purchase, shown below.

My new purse!

Some more great deals at Nordstrom Rack.

Keep the champagne flowing and keep us buying!

Thank you, come again!

Damask Obsession

Posted on 07 May 2010 by Ritu

You know how some people just have that inherent sense of space and interior style? Well, I’m not one of them. I’m a bit of a pack-rat and have trouble throwing things away that I haven’t used (in years!). After seeing some gorgeous and eclectic pieces of furniture at Pier 1 recently, I am finally ready to get rid of my junk to make room for a new chair.

L’objet de Desire

It was love at first sight as soon as I laid eyes on the gorgeous damask print on this dining chair. I’ll be placing it at my vanity in the bedroom rather than for dining.

What is Damask?

Damask is a word from Arabic origin, which describes a technique of weaving silk, wool or cotton fabrics. The unique thing about this weave is that the design is reversible. The print on this Pier 1 chair is exotic, intricate and yet simple in its black and white contrast. I’ve noticed the print pop up in various other places lately like on reusable shopping bags, wrapping paper and wallpaper in a little store in the East Village.

If you want some damask love for yourself, there is a lux armchair and cute mug available at Pier 1 as well.

Click here for a link to the chair on Pier 1′s site.

Experience the sexy Natori fragrance at Bloomingdales

Posted on 07 May 2010 by Ritu

The first time I experience the Natori fragrance, it came off very strong and I wasn’t sure how I felt about it, but as the day went on into the night, somehow the perfume transformed into a very sexy and powerful fragrance. Those qualities translated to my mood and Natori became the best accessory of the night.

If you happen to be in Manhattan today, I definitely recommend stopping by Bloomingdales on Lexington and 59th street between 4pm-6pm to experience it for yourself. The designer Josie Natori will be on site to give background on the creation of this sexy fragrance and sign purchased bottles.

What: Natori Fragrance Event at Bloomingdales
When: 4pm-6pm, Friday, May 7th, 2010
Where: Bloomingdales,  Lexington and 59th street

Posted on 04 May 2010 by Ritu

Diane Kruger has been announced as the new face of Calvin Klein for the newest fragrance Calvin Klein Beauty. Lately, we have seen many gorgeous stars opting to be spokeswomen for designer perfumes rather than launching their own fragrances like Nicole Kidman for Chanel and Kate Moss for YSL. Diane Kruger joins their rank as one the enchantresses who will mystify you with her signature CK fragrance.
