Valentine’s Day Gift Ideas – Handmade Delia Langan Jewelery

Posted on 30 January 2010 by Ritu

Valentine’s Day is coming up fast! And a good boyfriend should have started his research already on what gifts to get his lady for V-day this year. Nothing says I love you better than something you made with your own hands, putting love and care into each details of a present of your creation. If you are too lazy to do this, most of us girls will still appreciate some handmade, even if by someone else.

Give her a handmade Valentine’s Day present

Enter Etsy! According to Google’s web definitions, “Etsy is a website which provides small business entrepreneurs with a way to buy and sell handmade items.” My friend’s younger cousin, a very talented and creative upcoming jewelery designer, Delia Langan, has a shop on Etsy where she sells beautiful one of a kind jewelry that she’s designed and made with her own hands. The Caribbean Water Hoops pictured below is my favorite piece from her collection currently on Etsy. They are made with genuine Peruvian opals on 14K gold hammered hoops. The name she chose for this piece is probably the most appropriate jewelery ever named because they truly do remind me of the clear blue Caribbean water and waves and sea foam crashing up on gold sand beaches.

This will make a perfect Valentine’s Day present from a guy to his girlfriend or even a single girl’s gift exchange. Snap it up for $70 here.

Best Winter Jacket in New York

Next Winter Jacket Trend in New York

I first noticed the Canada Goose jackets in a tiny and exclusive boutique in SOHO, and it immediately caught my eye because of the distinctly Canadian logo and the most luxurious fur trim on the jacket hood I’ve seen this season. Then I started seeing it on a couple of guys around New York City – you know, the kind of guys that stand in line to buy limited edition sneakers for hours and spend $500+ on selvage jeans without even blinking and I knew this was going to be a hot trend this winter. When I went home to Toronto, Canada just before the holidays and saw them everywhere! Celebrities like Drake have already been spotted in Canada Goose and I have a feeling that it’s a matter of weeks till Kanye West is spotted in them too.

Canada Goose Jackets for Women

The hottest Canada Goose jacket model this season is the Kensington Parka. It is literally sold out everywhere in Canada (trust me, I’ve searched). With the record breaking, bone chilling cold we’ve had in New York City this winter, done leave the house without yours!

Ring Ring

Posted on 29 January 2010 by Ritu

Swarovski is calling and they want to put a ring (or two) on it. Since seeing a stack-able trio of multicolored crystal rings in 2007 I’ve been keeping an eye on Swarovski for the next stack-able ring. I’m happy to say they have a great item: the Lea Vintage Rose Ring. The black and Pink crystals will complement the 20 something New York girl’s wardrobe – black because it is the New York uniform and pink so add a touch of femininity.

Buy it for $100 (that’s only $50 per ring!) on their website: click here.

Rihanna Biting MIA’s Make Up style

Posted on 29 January 2010 by Ritu

Rihanna’s new video Hard has taken over the music channels and my iPod. I love the song, although while watching the video, I was more and more confused by all of Rihanna’s looks – from modernist spikes on her shoulders to the thong under sheer tights and finally the black electrical tape as pasties. Instead of saying “I’m so hard” like her lyrics, her outfits scream “I’m trying so hard”.

The one thing that I instantly thought of when I saw the video was how similar to MIA Rihanna looks. Her make up in the badass look below seems like a total rip off from MIA’s Paper Planes video.

There’s nothing wrong with copying or taking inspiration from other artists, but I just wish Riri would be more original.

Rihanna the Risk Taker

Posted on 04 January 2010 by Ritu

…at least in Fashion, and WWW recognizes this by awarding her their Best Risk Taker of 2009 award. I follow Who What Wear religiously and Rihanna has definitely been featured many times. She gets scrutinized for her drastic fashion & hairstyle moves, but what makes her stand out is that she’ll carry the style for a couple of seasons and end by which time,  every one else has picked it up.

Rihanna totally deserves this style recognition. Congrats Riri!
