Why I love living in spanish harlem. Let me count the reasons…
B/c the real estate catch phrase for it is “spa ha“. Hahhaha
There was a song about it sorta. Carlos Santana’s Maria Maria
The FDR is so close & I can go running there whenever I want
the old cuban man at the deli calls me “bangladesh” and once kissed me on the cheek & makes incredible lattes/coffee
I can eat tamales for breakfast if I want to – and it ain’t so bad
What I don’t like.
The thugs calling out to me on my way home
the thugs
although, maybe I should be happy since they call me MIA only because I look Indian
MIA
or even better, when they ask me where I’m from, and since I obviously ignore them and keep walking away safely, they burst out singing “Arab Money” by Busta Rhymes
Arab Money - click to hear the song
The giant rats that purposely (I swear!) try to trample me on 116th street between 1st & 2nd
This gorgeous white lace summer dress/tunic from Diane Von Furstenberg’s Spring 2009 collection just might be the perfect classic white summer dress ever created (as long as boho-chic is your idea of perfect).
On my way back from Toronto the weekend before last, I was luckily seated by the emergency exit on my flight. It was good because 1. I got tons of leg room, & 2. I got my own little TV that popped out of my armrest.
So, on top of being happy to be returning home I got overly excited about my secret armrest TV and made the suave interior decorator/architect young guy beside me to take a picture of my little screen! (I think he was an interior decorator because he was making these cool 3D rooms on his laptop.)
Yes, geeky, but I just had to share my joy with all my blog-readers!
Air Canada Emergency Exit Seat TV - Toronto to New York
So one of my best guy friends tells me today, in typical New York style, about a girl he’s sort of dating:
“i think i’m moving into being a support structure for her and i don’t really want that”
Now, what do I make of this?
I mean, I know my friend, I’ll obviously take his side, but is it his fault that the girl isn’t getting it that he’s just not that into her? Should he be even less responsive to her increasing number of texts or should she just stop texting?
After reading just a few words on his blog, I’m so much more in love with him!
I shudder just to imagine the kind of torture it unleashes on all his ex-es. The worst thing about any breakup is having access to some sliver of personal information about your ex, because you get to peek into his life and see how cool and cute he is and miss him that much more. And from the E! News reputation, he apparently has had a lot of ‘ex-es’ including Jessica Simpson, who for some reason I don’t see as someone who’d spend a lot of time online.
Why do I loooove all this awesome JM online goodies?
Because this is the first time I got myself emerged in one artists different communication platforms. I know that Kanye is pretty active online, but other than that, I don’t know of many artists genuinely communicating with their fans and the rest of the world without being heavily prompted and censored by their publicists. I like how real John Mayer is in his posts, & I loved the one post about his Happy Holidays post which he signs off with “Your Friend, John”. Aweeeeeeee.
Phong made this Crazy Animal Sweater allll by himself! he’s a creative genius! P, you need to make an online store and sell this stuff, it’s amazing! beat’s Bret’s (from flight of the conchords) animal print sweatshirts ANY DAY!
Then go to Thread Salon on 160 East 33rd St in Manhattan, get any service, get a card to fill out their survey, fill it out and they will email you a coupon for a free threading.
I’ve been to the salon and its great. Very clean and as trendy as these things get (which isn’t much but this one is actually on par with regular American salons).
If you’ve never done threading before, not to worry. It’s probably the best way to shape your eyebrows in the perfect arch apart from a visit to Anastasia’s in Beverly Hills.
I cannot wait for spring/summer so I can wear my hot Theory heels!
can't wait to strut around in these babies
I got them during the winter, because when I saw them, I fell in love and couldn’t hold out till normal sandal wearing weather to invest in them. I’m keeping them safe and sound in my closet till it’s time! And yes, I do take them out once in a while to try them on.
Another awesome reason why I simply can’t wait for spring any longer! Not just the fact that its 14°F in NYC today! (that’s -9°C for my Canadian readers.)
