My Quote of the Day – another one that will be going on the wall

Posted on 28 January 2009 by Ritu

“it’s an uncomfortable feeling when you’re not true to yourself – and that’s what you’ve been feeling. that little nudge from your “true self” that’s telling you something isn’t right”

Wanted Leo Dicaprio, but got Rob Schneider instead

Posted on 27 January 2009 by Ritu

I dragged two of my girlfriends out to Butter about a month ago hoping to find Leonardo Dicaprio there since I got first hand account from a friend who’d seen him there. Butter is apparently the hottest Monday night place in NYC right now. Celebrities like Leo, Shakira, Football players, hip hop producers, etc. etc. Oh and not to mention, every single model in the city! Me and my 5 foot 4 felt like a midget when I was there.

I got there after my bellydance class with BellyQueen across the street. while doing my make-up I even managed to get locked in the studio.

What I wore: black halter, with lots of silky ruffles in the front, and melt butter on your back low cut, liquid leggings, and silver heeled slingbacks. I mention this because after waiting around for about 30 mins, when the door guy (a skinny white guy in a worn in brown leather jacket and beany) came up, and after almost begging him, he looked me up and down, hair to heels, as well as my friends, before decididing that we were worthy of entering.

It was quite an experience just to go through that, as it was my first. Well, once we were in and checked our coats, we were lead through a hidden door in the wall to the club downstairs below the restaurant. The music was too ‘housey’ at first but as the place got packed around 12:45-1ish, it picked up to hip-hop (old school and new), rock, pop, and a bit of everything all mixed together and the spinning was awesome and seamless, even between Fall Out Boys and Kanye.

So, right before the club got super packed, I’m standing there, shyly holding my flute of champagne, trying to not look intimated by all the models, and I see Rob Schneider walk in, cross the room looking for people, and walk back out. He looked pretty much like this photo, just without the hat. I was hoping for Leo, but Rob totally made my night!

Vote for one of my favorite bloggers

Posted on 11 January 2009 by Ritu

I just wanted to spread the word about one of my favorite 20 something NYC bloggers – http://diamondkt.blogspot.com

I thoroughly enjoy his blogs for their randomness, openness, insight, nerdyness at times, “dude”-ness at other times, and stories of the bulldog named Diesel of course.

His blog was nominated for “Most Distinct Voice” in the Twenty-Something Bloggers Awards.

Good luck David!

Does getting older than the age of 25 mean becoming close-minded and scared?

Posted on 09 January 2009 by Ritu

I was talking to my best friend a few nights back who lives all the way out in Calgary, Canada, about growing older and becoming afraid of taking risks and making huge changes in our lives. The conclusion we came to is that after the age of 25, people tend to get settled in, and comfortable in what they know, and therefore are afraid to do things that may bring change into lives. This includes things like the city they live in, the job they might be in as well the relationships they are in. It is surely also tied to the quarter life crisis (which the sixth paragraph of this blogpost sums it up quite well), actually, it is probably the reason for the quarter life crisis. Once we begin to be forced to become responsible for ourselves, we become afraid of making the wrong choices, because if we fail, we wont have so much of our family, BFFs or roommates to fall back on. We’ll only have ourselves. That’s a scary thought. So, when things are comfortable, it is that much harder to take a risk that might ruin the fine balance in which we live our lives now.

All this said, I wish I could just turn the clock back about 13 years and go back to being 11 and oblivious.

Aldo shoes for men

Posted on 01 January 2009 by Ritu

Aldo shoes for menA few stylin guy friends came to visit my bf in NYC for new years and apart from great company and awesomeness for being Canadian, I was also impressed by their shoes. This got me thinking about Aldo since it’s a Canadian company and a good and affordable shoe store.

Aldo does a Great job copying runway styles. When they are brand new they may look like a little too gino - the gentlemen referred to as “guido-s” in USA – but once worn in, they look nothing but classy.  So guys, don’t be afraid to buy a “pointy-er” than your comfort zone pair of good leather loafer at Aldo. Don them as often as possible to wear ‘em out and soon you will have casual, cool and yet classy shoes on your feet to match that swagger.
