Long Distance Friendships

Posted on 28 March 2008 by Ritu

As us twenty something girls leave college and university to start our lives in the real world, we are tragically ripped apart from our girlfriends who we partied, laughed, cried, fought and made up with, and pretty much did everything with for the four years of university.

It’s hard to keep that friendship alive when you no longer live together or close by, and even harder if you move away to different cities. As we get older, we realize that a good friend is even harder to come by than a good man, so I recommend doing anything you can to keep your friendship alive (even if not as strong as before). Here are some easy ways how:

  1. Email each other! All the time! send each other links, or anytime that something happens that reminds you of each other.

  2. Send random text messages – kind of like you do to your boyfriend, send a random text to your best girl to tell her that you are thinking of her, you miss her, or even “OMG, this girl on the street is wearing a hideous jacket!”
  3. Tell each other about how naughty you’ve been – whether that’s eating too much, or drinking too much! It’s nice to have someone to scold you and get you back in shape, and someone to laugh over your own silliness with.
  4. INVEST! time, effort, and money into your long distance friendship. Spend at least a few mins each week to write to each other, put in a effort to pick up the phone and call her long-distance (remember her time zone though!) and invest the money to go visit her in whatever corner of the world she might be living in now. You’ll get to see another part of the world and also your best friend. (Steph and I both went to visit Nilam in Cardiff, Wales last year.)
  5. Don’t think too much or hesitate – just hit the “send” button already! even if it’s just a “hey” or a “what’s up”.

And on that note, I’m hitting the Publish button on this blog =)

My BFFs in the whole wide world. I love you guys! NRS for life!

Style File – How to do the Nude Lip look

Posted on 15 March 2008 by Ritu

I finally tried the pale/nude lip look today, just as an experiment to add something new to my regular lip gloss routine, and it was surprisingly easy and actually looked good.

Here’s how I did it:

Step 1: Put on one coat of your favorite clear lip-gloss. (Mine is Clinique Superbalm Moisturizing Lipgloss in Apricot)

Step 2: Add a fews dabs of liquid concealer on your lips, and blend in with your fingertips. (I used the highlighter end of Maybelline’s 2-in-1 concealer + highlighter)

Step 3: One more coat of lip gloss to smooth it all out, and voila, you have a quick DYI nude lip without any fuss or extra make-up investment.

How 20 something girls Travel in Style

Posted on 05 March 2008 by Ritu

In the confined spaces of airports, well dressed and stylish women (and men) stick out like sore thumbs in the midst of matching sweat-suits and jogging pants. We can’t help but check them out repeatedly to the point of staring, but why not try out the receiving end of that? Here are some easy ways how:

  1. Don’t be afraid to wear heels, but be sensible. Wear a comfortable pair of low heels or wedges, no stilettos or pointy-toed ones on the flight.
  2. Take a rolling suitcase with wheels instead of a duffel bag. It is harder to keep your balance and posture in heels while carrying extra weight.
  3. Add a touch of bold colour, like deep red lipstick or a bright coloured scarf or shawl.
  4. Blow dry your hair before you fly. Cabin air dries you out, and it will actually help in maintaining your blow-dried or flat-ironed style. If you go au naturel, your hair will just go flat and staticky.
  5. Wear a headband if you didn’t have time to blow dry. It’s an easy way of keeping frizz and static in check and adds a classy touch.
  6. Moisturize like crazy – that includes your hands, face, as well as body, so drink lots of water and keep a tiny tube of hand cream handy. You’ll look fresh and supple instead of dry and pale like most of the other travelers.
  7. Touch up your make up just before landing, especially if you have someone who’s waiting to receive you at your destination. Don’t overdo it, just a touch of eyeliner, lipgloss and blush will do for a very fresh look.

Now that you know how to look fabulous at the airport, don’t forget to stay alert, on your toes and on time. Happy traveling!
